Belgrade Front Yard Retaining Wall Sod and River Rock Install

A front yard that's hard to mow, uneven, and kind of just... there - that's what a lot of homeowners are dealing with. No real definition. No structure. Just grass running into a raised bed with no clean separation. That's exactly what this Belgrade Sterling homeowner had, and it's what we set out to fix.

We built a block retaining wall to create a proper raised planting bed at the front of the yard. The wall wraps the bed cleanly, giving the whole front of the house a defined edge and a finished look that you can actually see from the street. The block itself has a natural stone texture with warm tan and grey tones - it looks solid because it is solid.

Inside the bed, we filled it with river rock and planted hostas throughout. River rock is one of those materials that just works - it holds up, it drains well, and it cuts your maintenance way down compared to mulch. The hostas add some soft green texture without needing a lot of attention. It's a combination that looks intentional and stays looking that way.

Fresh sod went down around the base of the wall to clean up the lawn and give the whole yard a consistent, finished feel. When the grass, the wall, and the planting bed all have their own space and their own clean lines, the whole yard reads differently. Tidier. More put-together. The kind of front yard that actually matches the house behind it.
