Sometimes a space just needs a complete do-over. The old concrete and retaining wall had run their course - they weren't safe, they weren't functional, and honestly they weren't doing the property any favors. So we demoed everything and started fresh.

We built a new cedar retaining wall to hold the grade between the driveway and the yard. Cedar is a solid choice for this kind of work - it holds up well, looks sharp right away, and ties into a residential property naturally. We ran the wall along the driveway edge and wrapped it to define a clean planting bed area along the front of the house.

From there, we poured new concrete steps connecting the driveway level up to the yard, a walkway running the length of the house, and a patio off the back. Everything was tied together so the flow from the driveway to the door actually makes sense now. No more awkward transitions or uneven surfaces.

That's really what this kind of project is about - function first. A retaining wall that's failing or concrete that's heaved and cracked isn't just an eyesore. It's a trip hazard and a drainage problem waiting to get worse. Getting ahead of it means the fix is cleaner and the end result holds up longer.

When you pull everything out and rebuild it right, you end up with a yard that actually works for the people living there. Safer to walk through, easier to maintain, and a lot more usable day to day.
