This one started with a blank, beat-up backyard behind Blondeluxe - a commercial hair salon. No structure, no character, just a fenced-in space with a lot of potential and not much else. That's exactly the kind of canvas we love working with.
We started with a full landscape design so the client could actually see where things were headed before a single stone got set. The 3D rendering laid out the whole vision - flagstone patio, gravel field, curved planting beds with black mulch, and clean separation between zones. Getting that plan locked in before construction is what keeps projects like this from going sideways halfway through.
From there, we got to work on the base prep. Grading, gravel sub-base, bed shaping - all of it had to be done right before the Valders Buff flagstone ever came out of the truck. That buff-toned stone is tough, it holds up to foot traffic, and it looks sharp against darker gravel and mulch. We set each piece by hand and filled the joints with fine gravel to lock everything in place and keep the look clean.
The metal edging ties it all together. It keeps the mulch beds from bleeding into the gravel field and gives the whole space a finished, intentional look. It's one of those details that's easy to skip but makes a big difference in how long the design holds up and how good it looks doing it. Commercial properties especially benefit from that kind of low-maintenance structure - nobody wants to be out there re-edging beds every season.
What we ended up with is a backyard that actually works for the property. Defined zones, durable materials, and a design that doesn't require a ton of upkeep to stay looking good. It's a solid example of what thoughtful landscape design and quality paver patio work can do for a commercial space.
